1 check to see if fascias are rotted. Apply wood putty to the newly cleaned area in smooth even strokes with a spatula tool. If you notice that the wood around your window has rotted take care to address this as soon as possible. Pry off the apron and trim using a pry bar.

Use a chisel or ice pick to chip away at the rot in sections until it is completely removed. Many houses have a trim board or crown molding nailed to the fascia just under the shingles. Replacing the wood isn t terribly complicated but the problem usually goes further than you might thing. Holes caused by pests and woodpeckers should be addressed immediately as a person only has to fill in the holes with wood putty.

Whether you will install gutters by yourself or hire a pro here is what needs to be done. A single rotted clapboard can usually be replaced by the homeowner or the commercial maintenance crew by using the old rotted clapboard as a measurement board for the new siding plank.
