Not only do i have a door that actually stays open now i also have chrome hardware instead of the gold. When you replace a door slab in an existing frame you may have to mortise the hinges into the door. This took me about 10 minutes. Replacing exising hinges is one possibility and installing hinges on a replacement door slab is a different job.

Install the new door hinge and secure all six or eight screws. Use a cordless gun to unscrew the hinges from the jamb. Leave the hinges on the door. Repeat process for hinge 3.

The hinges are installed at the factory when the door is assembled. I ll be replacing all the hardware in the house. We used a table saw but a circular saw will also do the job. Repeat process for hinge 2.

Replace the hinge back in the jamb where you cut the mortise. Do the same with the location of the hinge on the door. Remove the hinges when you re done marking. Take precise measurements of the existing door and doorframe.

Remove the old door from the jamb. Place the door with the exterior side down across two sawhorses. Mark and trim the new door. Then remove the hinge pins and lift the existing door out of the doorframe.

You don t need to take the whole door down just remove one hinge and replace it with a new one then do the next one and finally swap out the final one. Most new doors are sold in a pre hung format. This method allows you to replace each of the door hinges without removing the door from the door frame which makes this a very easy one person job.
