The best way to remove silicone caulk short of using a digestant is to treat it with a silicone sealant remover wd 40 vinegar or alcohol wait for it to soften and then attack it with a knife or paint scraper.
A heat gun should soften the old stuff but i wonder what i could use to remove it.
Wear the appropriate safety gear for this thick gloves etc and gently slice the old sealant away until you have removed as much as you possibly can.
After all the sealant is removed dip a cloth in rubbing alcohol to get rid of any cloudiness on the glass.

There is only really one way to remove sealant and this is to get a sharp knife chisel stanley knife etc.
You can make the job a bit eaiser by soaking the cloth in methylated spirits.
